Renters Reform Bill

I recently let four flats in the Notting Hill/Bayswater area which, given the lack of stock, meant I met a lot of prospective tenants.

I made a point of asking every single tenant if they were aware of the upcoming legislative changes to the rental market. A majority were not.

When I told them what was coming it was a mixture of surprise and disinterest. They didn’t understand the need for rolling contracts, not a single one complained about Section 21 being used unfairly against them. In fact, a large majority had either used Section 21 themselves or had simply moved on when they were ready at the end of a fixed term.

The one thing they all really cared about was having more choice at a lower price. Sadly, something that is not going to happen.

It never ceases to amaze me how mind-numbingly stupid the politicians running this country are. If you restrict the supply of a market the price will increase.

We should be encouraging more private landlords, not demonising them, as they provide necessary liquidity to the market.
